Good Evening all, Smile

Quite a few movements Today in Leixoes and it seems that I just arrived at the spotting spot at the right time. Caught a vessel just leaving "Aida" and in the background is the "Mikue" of which we already have a photo of in Leixoes Vandaag taken about 6 months ago I think.



and now the "Aida" again from another angle, in the background we have the cement carrier "Roaz" dishcharging cement from Setubal and the boxboat "Portlink Caravel" also just leaving.



Another Ship spotted was the "HC Freya" unloading a cargo of Scrap, this Ship maybe has a Dutch connection Question


Also unloading Scrap is the "Maria D"





and last but not least, the outward bound "Portlink Caravel"

Good Evening all again from a warm and Sunny Leixoes,
Today we have the "Frauke" working heavy lifts and also with a strange looking float or buoyancy tank alongside the way it is painted it looks as if it belongs to the ship, I'm sure Eric can help us out with this Stability float, its also the first time I have seen one of these in use, the Homeport of the "Frauke" needs no explanation as we can all see the Schloss on the Bow.






for some reason I cannot get the photo to show after paste, dont know why. never mind it worked ok on the 2nd photo,

also we have the "Katharina D" loading stone, no info on this ship,

and also dishcharging steel plates from Frederiksverk is the "Kathrin Krog" which I am sure is an ex "Mercandian" and has already done many many miles

Thank you Peter to place "my good old Vesting"..in 1992 is was build at Shipyard Ferus Smit, Westerbroek nr.290 for Mr.C.Leyten, Hellevoetsluis (Holland) as Vesting...indeed a nice looking ship...it was my first ship where I did engineering almost alone and also projectleader..sometimes I was on board after the ship was delivered. I heard later he sold the ship in 2000 as Meander and disappeared from the seas..and using afterthen as inlandcargovessel...but is a pleasure to see its sailing the seas again. And its still looking fresh. Nice detail :70% from accommodation is for shipowners using.

Hi Roelof,
I must admit I went close to the Meander and have to say that the paintwork onboard was of a very very high quality and so smooth she reminded me straight away of a inland waterway ship that has not seen saltwater, but she must have because she did not come here on the back of a truck did she, very nice Ship Very Happy .

It seems that she's unlucky several times, here some reports.
The Katrine Krog collided with the tanker ..... on the half september 2002 just outside the Maas centre pilot station .

General cargo M/V Katrine Krog & crude oil M/T Alfa Britannia in collision off New Waterway near Maas Center 2330, LT, Sep 16. Lifeboat sailed from Berghaven of Hook of Holland for assistance. Also tug Fairplay-21 departed New Waterway for assistance & arrived at collision 0045, Sep 17.Inspection found that Alfa Brittannia had dent in aft ship. Katrine Krog had indented foreship, 1 meter above waterline. Vessel got permission to enter New Waterway in tow of Fairplay-21 early Sept. 18 morning. (Wed. Sept. 18 2002)/ . (Wed. Sept. 18 2002)

On the night between 11 and 12 May, the Danish coaster KATRINE KROG and the Russian ship LADOGA II collided in Øresund off the island Ven. KATRINE KROG received minor damages to the stem and headed towards Copenhagen where the Division for Investigation of Maritime Accidents went on board the coaster. Furthermore, the Division for Investigation of Maritime Accidents has contacted the Russian authorities to get an explanation from LADOGA II. In compliance IMO’s guidelines, the Division for Investigation of Maritime Accidents will prepare a casualty report in cooperation with the Russian authorities.
Her name before was CONTO.

An accomodation 70% for owners......
Leaves 30% for the rest ofn the crew, usually just a mate and 2 AB's.
I think it is a bloody shame.
I've sails on one of those too, the Aldebaran.
The owners where friendly people, had a good time, but I had a cramped cabin, our messroom was more like a canteen, where we couldn't even prepare something warm to eat, as there was no exhaust.
Making toast? wive of the captain complains of the smell.....
Easy for her to say, with a fulle equiped kitchen, big livingroom, bedroom with bathroom with bath and shower, etc.
We used to have diner at the bridge, there they had a table with 6 seats...
Also on the bridge, while navigating (calm waters) we used to watch television. On the ceiling there was a normal televisonset.
Quite a show huh....
At the forcastle they didn't have a ropestore or lashingstore. They had a garage.......
Steel post about 1m high, with in between the ropeslings, on top a frame with the car. Big hatch, foremast could be used as a crane too, and this way we could easely put the car ashore.
I must admit it was quite a clever solution.
Next to the "garage" they had a storage for lashings, all in small steel containers.
With a pallettruck we could move everything, making storage and handling very efficient.

The bridge layout was nice too, they had two seperate stands for navigation. One for sea, and one for rivernavigation.
Real nice.
So, in fact, the only thing I didn't like was the small quarters we had.
Non the less I had a nice time aboard, eventhough it was just a month.

Hi Eric,
70% sounds a lot, Shocked I remember one I sailed on "Helena Jayne" ex "Nieuwe Waterweg" capt owners Saloon on Deck level (Port Side),owners galley on Deck level (Starbd Side) down below the stairs forward part were 2 big bedrooms just these covered 50 % or more of the accomodation also if I remember correctly the Wagenborg 500 tonners were not much different.

Today in Leixoes we have the "Celtica Hav" with the distinct lines of a Wewelsflether,

Yes, but the Aldebaran had only a workshop and wheelhouse above deck.
Livingquarters where below.

I see on your picture the rain and thunderstorms they promised us for today are also not in the north.
Here it is another sunny day, and with 22°C not so bad.
Yesterday we had 29º, and already fires again.
How is it in the north? Also a lot of fires?

See that you are still as quick on the draw as usual, The "Katrin Krog I see has a mistake you have a DWT as only 620 and the "Lone Baand" Dwt 1021 as was usual for these ex Mercandians they were all about 1050 DWT, there was an owner I think in Antwerp or Rozendaal, Slobben or Sea River line I think was his or their name they had the sisterships to these and because of the High freebord they were allowed after putting some stronger frames in the Hold to raise the load-line so the ships could carry 2200 DWT, if I remember right some of their names were "Star Ocean", Adriatic",
"Charlotte", these Ships were at one time on charter to Sanara Rotterdam, I dont have any fotos of these ships but remember them well as I was on the same charter..

Also another arrival here this afternoon is the unmistakeable style of Heinrich Sietas, "Nfy Jell"

Latest arrival in Leixoes today is the "Oassys 2 and I am sure that this ship will need no introduction from me as I am sure that many of you Forumers will know the origin of this ship, I knew as soon as I saw the size of her oversize Funnel or Pijp,



This Ship has arrived with a cargo of Sugar (2500 ton) from Balboa..

Pete..a late reaction from my side for the Meander, 70% for accommodation for shipowner...you have seen the ship..not so big
and only one layer for accommodation..can you imagion there was
inside : salon+open kitchen of 11x4m...one bedroom (with bed of 2x2m)
one bathroom with shower and seperate bathtub..one spare room for gast
and owner-storage in steering-room......and 30% left for 3 crewmembers
who had entrance in back of funnel, they had one little messroom,2 little
cabins for sailors with bed above eachother..and one cabin for mate
and a little toilet..no engineer on board..because shipowner had his MM papers and engine was under 900 pk. A typical inlandcargovesselaccommodation...you find a lot this kind with guys who change there inlandcargovessel for a seagoingvessel.
And one of your last pictures looks to me ..the ex Rijnborg or Scheldeborg..only they removed the typical Hauglund cranes for some cheap other kind.

Even though the "Meander" had most of the accomadation for the owner she still looked a very nice little Ship, The ex Wagenborg in Leixoes was the "Scheldeborg" as I could see her old name on the stern..

Here's another one of the above Ship "Schelderborg" or as she is called today "Oassys 2" I thought this Ship might be popular mostly for all you Wagenborgers, On this photo the Ship I think is a little newer and has not covered so many miles as Today.
